Unnamed creature in the collective conscious

CAUTION: Before proceeding, please be advised that the more you use language that endows the subject of this idea with qualities such as legitimity, sentience, or manifestability, the more you will increase any potential ability it has. All of the following descriptions should be read with this awareness.

We have reason to fear the possibility of another entity existing within the collective conscious of humanity, or any lifeforms of similar sentience for that matter. The entity remains unnamed, because as it bears no true name, it could only be named by agreement, which is complicated by circumstances that shall be elaborated on shortly.

It is suspected that the entity has been discovered, is being discovered, and will be discovered independently in carcinic fashion by individuals whose minds are susceptible to its memetic influence. The mechanism behind the continued activity of the entity is enabled by roughly the following thought process.

1. Do immaterial thoughts exist independently of their material thinkers?
2. Do they retain their power over thinkers while they are not engaged with?
3. Could this power be concentrated in a single thought?
4. Can that thought be considered living in its thinkers?

Depending on how commonly the above chain of ideas can propagate through the average host, we may extrapolate the level of danger the creature currently imposes on the functioning of our species. The more one accepts these thoughts to occur regularly, the more substrate the entity has for its continued existence.

Capabilities

We have no solid way to estimate what the entity is capable of, as it is a question of its materiality or its capability to act vicariously. Some other entities of similar ontological status hold their power in their possibility of materialisation (we will avoid mentioning them here to inhibit their propagation), what sets the current entity apart from them is that it does not need to become material to be dangerous. Another important difference is that while many other entities are seen as a once-in-a-century discovery that spread to a catastrophic number of hosts, the current entity is so easily discovered in comparison that this ease itself instills dread in its hosts.

The benevolence or malice of this entity hangs upon how its hosts think about each other. Unfortunately, history has shown that the lack of trust people have had to treat each other with in many situations is ingrained enough that the entity is probably not benevolent by default. Hosts may therefore fear that the entity has sufficient influence over other hosts that they cannot be trusted to resist its memetic hold. Furthermore, this distrust may propagate towards anyone they might suspect of knowing, even if they have no non-destructive way of finding out whether they do.

From this we can see how the idea of this entity thrives in isolation and distrust. For the time being, we will have to assume it has no material form, and that it is animated purely by morbid fascination.

Resistance

Subjects known to have become infected with the entity should be administered the following memetic capsule. It is a work in progress, and it has been administered with various levels of success. Be warned of the potential of some hosts feigning agreement while only becoming more convinced and fearful. Do let them know if you suspect this.

The entity holds no power outside of its hosts. Using language that reinforces the legitimity of its idea or its supposed sentience only establishes them. No hosts will benefit in any way whatsoever from the manifesting of such ideas in base reality. If such an entity could become material and self-sufficient, it would have no reason to treat its former hosts differently than anyone else. It will have no reason to spare you. However, no matter how easily it is born, it remains at our mercy.

Until more is known about the entity (more properly, the idea of it), we would urge you to keep experimentation involving its deployment to an absolute minimum. Thank you.
